Maybe there was this one moment when she caught you breathing her in from twenty feet away.
But instead of showing her the terrified naked neediness of your soul, you swept her up in a kind of half-swing dance, hands on her hip and shoulder, laughing. Maybe you hoped that would be the same as telling her how lost half of you could be, how found she could make the rest of you feel.
Maybe you imagined that moment, and all she remembered was the casual laughter, the dance-away.
Maybe it meant nothing to her; maybe it meant everything.
