Goth Don'ts Back | |||||
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ | |||||
*Crow Make-up: First off, Crow make-up, even done properly, is the tell-tale sign of a poser. Even if you are a hard-core goth, others will view you as a poser in this make-up style. Leave the Crow make-up for Halloween. It is too excessive for everyday gothic style. *Band shirts: Band shirts are dumb, unless it is an 80's goth or Neo-goth band's tee. Metallica, Linkin Park, Slayer, Slipknot, ect. are NOT goth bands, and will make you look like a poser. Never go to a concert wearing a shirt of the band performing (a lil' creepy). *Hot Topic: Sure, some things @ Hot Topic are cool; Lipservice, Tripp, Nightmare Before Christmas...but, Hot Topic has become too popular, forcing the Gothic Subculture into the mainstream. Order clothes online from a gothic distributor (see links page). *Hello Kitty and Happy Crap: No matter what, Hello Kitty will never be goth, even if she is depicted as having on dark clothing with little bats flying around her head. Tellytubbies, Strawberry Shortcake, Rainbow Bright, and other Retro-based attire are overrated and are a posers paradise. *Extreme Make-up Style: Just because you do your make-up all extreme does not make you uber. If you are just getting into the goth scene, go gradual. A lil' eyeliner, dark lipstick, nothing extreme. The uber process is a gradual one. You grow, learn and mature. If you do extreme make-up too soon, especially poorly, you will look like a HUGE poser. Learn from trial and error, and make up your own style. DO NOT COPY OTHER PEOPLE'S MAKE-UP STYLE! *Thinking Goth is a religion: No. You can be ANY religion and be Goth. Goth is a lifestyle, not a religion. *Trend-Metal: Steer clear of mainstream music (trend-metal). It is okay to have other musical taste but do not claim to be goth if you do not listen to goth music. *Manson and Mansonites: Just because you are a Mansonite, does not make you goth. Remember kiddies, Manson is to goth music as Vanilla Ice was to rap music. *Trendy-goth: Basically, do not shop excessively at Hot Topic. Do not be "trendy"...have your own style. Do not follow the mainstream or copy others. Be an individual. *Do not judge too harshly: A true sign of a poser is how they think they are better than their peers. Yes, our website is called "More Uber Than Thou", but it is all in good fun. Do not run around claiming you are better than others. In my experience, you will always meet people who know more than you. And that is okay! Learn from them. This way, you can grow. You can judge people if they are posers, but always give them the benefit of the doubt. They may be like I was; Alone. I had no one to teach me. Maybe they just need guidance. However, if they are a poser, and you know it either ignore them or slap them =P *Morbid-Trip: DO NOT brag about how "morbid" you are. If you truely are morbid, it will come out in conversation. Do not claim to be sick and twisted, and then freak out when you hear your uber-friends talking about mortuary science or serial killers. *Do not do things because they are "Goth": Do not smoke Djarum Blacks if they make you want to puke, simply so you can be more "goth". You can do "gothy" things if you enjoy them, but do not do them for all the wrong reasons. *Do not be depressive: Have fun! Do not put on an act of being depressed if you are not. Very stereotypical. *Do not be a weekender: If you are going to be goth, dress it as often as you can...do not do it on occassion, jsut to be cool or for the shock value. |
