Australia 2006 - Living DownUnder
The dogs at our first housesit in Balgowlah Heights were a joy to play with. Cookie (white) and Zoe (black) kept us busy with runs and cuddles.
Housesitting

We spent our first 7 months in Australia housesitting. This was a great way for us to experience living in several suburbs without paying rent! We took care of people's homes and pets in exchange for a place to stay, and occasionally a small fee for the electricity and internet we used. Our first housesit was in Balgowlah Heights, which was a wonderful month as we ran around getting important things like driver licenses, medical cards, tax id numbers, and a car. We had a short gap between that first housesit and the second in Mosman, so we detoured down Princes Highway for a week in Melbourne, where we visited with Sarah (relative from Tasmania). Back in Mosman, Glenn began the chore of finding a job. He had several interviews during our 6 weeks there, but nothing panned out. Meanwhile we adored the beauty of the area and took lots of walks on nearby Balmoral Beach. The third housesit took us to an outer suburb, Westleigh, for 3 months. The birdlife was a great entertainer there, and we both got in great shape with twice daily walks of the dog. Glenn continued his job search, with several more promising interviews, and Erin took a short trip back to the states for a wedding and a visit with mom towards the end of this 3 months. When she returned, we had a week to pack before moving to our last housesit. Erin had gone to a job interview before her trip, and Glenn was in final interviews with three companies. We both got jobs starting on the same day in October. About the same time, we discovered we were pregnant! We had one final housesit in Castlecrag before getting our own apartment right on the Harbour.
Above left, a view of Balmoral Beach near the 2nd housesit. A gorgeous place to stroll and have a good coffee! Top right, Erin with mom and Christina. Bottom right is Christina with Jeff and her bridal party - the wedding Erin flew home to attend.
