| Erin enjoys a glass of wine after the day at the Great Barrier Reef - similar to our upcoming week in Fiji!!! (Note the tanning for strapless wedding dress!) |
| Erin's Journal for 2/24 to 2/28/03 Queensland Today we had a leisurely morning - I even got Glenn to sleep in, thanks to keeping him up late last night watching another movie on tv! We cooked breakfast again, enjoying the chance to have eggs, and spent the morning doing laundry and catching up on my journals while Glenn read his book in the sun out back. There was a brief but violent rainstorm in the middle of the morning, but Glenn was back out in the sun 15 minutes later! He wants to be as tan as the Fijians by the time we get there. Not me, pal! I want to still have softer-than-leather skin by the time I reach 50! But hey, he's a Florida boy and loves the tan thing. I'll still love him with leather skin - I'll just have to 'tan his hide' occasionally to keep him snuggly! :) We did nothing much for the rest of the day. Glenn and I watched some tv over lunch, then read our books for a while. Glenn fell asleep on the floor, while I went for the much more comfortable bed for my nap. We woke up to the phone ringing, as Jo was checking to see if we'd arrived after all. We told her when we'd be back to their place (later this week but a day earlier than we'd told them), and offered to make dinner for the family that night. Pasta it is! Afterward, we lazed around more until dinner time, and had a delightful light meal of potatos and a huge salad. Then we watched the next episode of '24', and the Grammies. I went to bed around midnight, but Glenn had a hard time sleeping due to his nap. 2/25/03 This morning we slept late, due to our late night. We wanted to do a short hike today, to get some exercise! The rain yesterday made me hesitant to get out there and muddy myself up, but hey, what else is there to do? Beaches aren't so much fun in the rain, so mud at least is fun to slide in! Or so I thought. We didn't actually muster the energy to get ourselves that dirty, knowing we'd have to clean everything back up. Instead, we lazed around in the morning, doing last-minute laundry and finishing my book. After lunch, we got ourselves cleaned up and headed out, just for a drive to get out of the house. We ended up going south of Sunshine Beach about 14 km, then traveling back up the coast. There wasn't much to see on such a gray and stormy day, and even the beach was stinging with the blowing sand. So we sat in a park and talked about marriage, each of us wanting to confirm that the other is sure, now that it's so close. We have so much in common, even in the way we feel about things, that we are able to talk through anything, even those uncomfortable things like doubts and questions. We had no doubts about the rightness of getting married, just whether we should wait to live a while in 'normal' situations, as our 2 1/2 years together has been either states apart or together all the time on travel! We finished our conversation more sure than ever that we are doing the right thing, and can't wait to get married next week! We finished our drive back to town, stopping off to pick up pizza and get Glenn a haircut. It seems like he is always getting his hair cut!!! But he wants to look his best for the wedding, so how can I blame him? We finished off the pizza in no time, and had appetite left to finish the ice cream too! It was a relaxing night. 2/26/03 Today we got up and lazily whiled away the rainy morning. Glenn had been hoping for enough sun to lay out a bit or take a half day at the beach before heading back to our friends in Brisbane, but to no avail. We cleaned up the house, washed everything we'd used and remade the bed, and were packed & ready to go around 1:30pm. The drive from Noosa to Brisbane was a short one after all the driving we've been doing, and we got there around 3:30pm. Glenn dropped me off to work on the computer while he went off to get some stuff for dinner and check on his tux. We greeted Shane and the girls when they got home, and Jo when she arrived later. Shane had to leave again to go work on Jo's car, which had broken down this weekend, but we cooked a big spaghetti dinner for Jo and the girls in the meantime. It was a nice meal, and we were happy to catch up with everyone again. I sat down with Jo and watched another movie, then one more when she went to bed. Shameless, but I know southeast Asia will have no more movies for me! 2/27/03 & 2/28/03 Today I worked on the computer all day, resizing photos, transferring journals, and prepping the website for updates. Glenn ran around and did chores regarding the car, picked up his tux, and visited a few used car dealers to see about pricing ours to sell. It looks encouraging! I stayed up late, working with Glenn to pack everything for Fiji, but still had trouble getting to sleep. I tossed and turned, then finally got up at 3:30am and went to watch Titanic very quietly. Too excited for Fiji, I guess! I was awake before everyone of course, and saw them off to school before plugging away at the website. I'm not totally up to date, but halfway! Today it's off to Fiji!!! |
