Erin's Journal for 9-28-02

For our second day in Vienna, we decided to check out our options for a musical adventure. This was Saturday, which we figured would be the best day for a concert. We started out by heading to the grocery store for breakfast, picking some yogurt and bread and sitting out in the cold to eat it. Then we headed for some flea markets we'd been told about by the front desk. Glenn loves the flea markets, so whenever we see one on the map, it becomes a 'must do' for our agenda
This one was not bad. It was a mix of true artists with fun stuff they'd created, and some folks that just brought out all their junk to get rid of. We jostled our way through the crowds for over an hour in the rain before I got sick of it and told Glenn I was done. Then we started looking out for a place to eat and relax for a bit, as I seemed to be more tired than I should for something so quick. We ended up on a street with a McDonalds and a pizza place, and picked the pizza place to eat. We found a seat in the crowded upstairs seating area and spent a nice 45 minutes resting.
Finally we were rested enough to go on, and headed for the fresh food market we'd also been told about, which was supposedly on the other side of old town. We wound through some off-track streets and found the market, but didn't want to buy anything. The rain was really putting a damper on the market too, and we were quickly ready to look for something else to do. We headed back up to the opera district to get information on the available shows.
As we made our way uptown, I decided I was too tired to see a show tonight, and we gathered our information for shows offered on Sunday night. There were only a few that didn't perform every day, so we basically had our pick. We took several fliers and headed back to the hostel around 4pm. We took a short rest period upstairs in our room, talking a bit to our roommates who'd be heading out the next day, and ended up resting for almost an hour.
We woke up just in time to catch the hostel's proclaimed "Bad Movie Nite", which was Volcano this particular night. They offer really bad movies in the cafeteria each weekend night, so we sat in to watch a ridiculous disaster flick starring Tommy Lee Jones and Anne Heche (pre-lesbian come-out) fight the unprecedented event of a volcano sprouting from the L.A. basin. All this good fun ended just in time for us to go out to a nice Chinese food dinner just 2 blocks away. We finished off some good food and headed back to an early night around midnight.
