The Queen Victoria Building (QVB) is one of the better known shopping locations in Sydney. |
Glenn's Journal 02-01-03 & 02-02-03 Sydney Saturday morning and we were up early so we could get to as many markets as possible today. Our first stop was the Paddy Market in Haytown which was within walking distance from the hostel. This market has more of the typical "flea market" items like home. Erin bought a few things including an Asian dress and a necklace. We left the Paddy Market and headed to the monorail that goes around Darling Harbor. The ride only lasts about 10 minutes to go the whole way around but it provided us with some views of places that we should visit but will not have time this trip. Definitely next time!!! After the monorail ride we caught a bus down to the "Rocks" where we found our way to the George St Craft Market. This market,as the title describes, has more crafts and less "flea market" items. We ended up buying a painting and a wood sculpture at this market. We were also carrying the shoes and pants that I had bought yesterday so our bag was getting bigger. We also only brought in our day packs for our overnight stay so everything else that we bought had to go in a seperate shopping bag. It was getting late but we decided to try one more market before returning to pick up Erin's wedding dress on the way home. On the way to catch the bus to the Paddington market we came across "buskers" or street performers out and about the Circular Quay harbor area. We watched for a little while but had to continue on. We caught the bus and made our way to the Paddington market. We walked around but most things we had seen earlier in the day so we didn't but anything here. This market was also more arts and crafts than "flea market" items. It was small but well worth the visit. On the way home we stopped at QVB (Queen Victoria Building) where we picked up Erin's wedding dress. She was very happy about the choice. We then made our way by train to the bus station where we caught the 5:40 pm bus back to Whale Beach. The ride took over an hour and we arrived home just before 7:00 pm and dinner. Dinner was excellent as usual and we thanked our hosts for another wonderful meal. We also asked if we could stay another day as we had decided to take a day off before driving to Cairns, and instead of seeing the Blue Mountains. We were both exhausted from our week in Sydney but definitely wished we had more time. We could easily spend another month here. We headed upstairs where we both crashed early. 02-02-03 Sydney Sunday morning and a day off!!! We spent the morning just relaxing around the apartment, I laying in the sun reading my book while Erin relaxed inside on the PDA. We also got a few loads of clothes washed and hung out to dry this morning so we would start our next adventure with at least clean clothes. We relaxed the day away and finally around 4:00 pm had to head into town to buy groceries as we had volunteered to prepare dinner for our hosts for tonight. It was the least we could do to say thanks!! Erin prepared a Mexican meal of burritos, which Pauline and Graham had not made at home before. They had not eaten much Mexican at all so this was worth a try. Dinner was excellent but I am not sure exactly what Pauline and Graham actually thought about it. They gave us the polite "it was good" but did not opt for seconds. No Worries!! After dinner we chatted with our hosts for quite a while before retiring to our room around 9:00 pm. We still had some packing to do and a long drive ahead of us in the morning. |
