Glenn's Journal for 10-30-02 - Return to Nairobi
Our last day on safari which includes a game drive through Tsavo West on the way back to Nairobi. We should arrive late in the afternoon where we will collect our other backpack and head off to our hotel. The game drive was somewhat uneventful as Tsavo is covered by very heavy brush and the animals have plenty of places to hide. We stopped for a picnic lunch on the way back to Nairobi before breaking down near the airport. Richard, our driver, had to call for other transport to pick us up and take us to into town while Richard waits for a mechanic to repair the van. (We found out later that a wheel bearing went bad.)
We found our way to the main office to pick up the backpack before being dropped off at the Comfort Inn. The Comfort Inn is a new hotel in the city center with good security, and a restaurant and bar downstairs. We checked out a few rooms until we found one at the back of the hotel (away from the street noise). We dropped our bags and headed out to an internet cafe to let the parents know that we enjoyed our safari and that we were back in Nairobi and safe. We returned to our hotel before dark (as it is not that safe to be out on the streets after dark in Nairobi) where we had dinner before returning to the room for the night. Tomorrow will be an R&R day for us after 13 days on the road. |
