Today we are heading to Adelaide to start the next part of our Australian adventure. We had an early flight this morning that would last less than 3 hours but includes a 1 1/2 hour time change. We would then arrive into Adelaide around 3:00 pm where Andrew (a friend that we met in Florence and Rome) would pick us up at the airport. Ken and Adele drove us to the airport where we said our goodbyes and thanked them for all of their hospitality. The flight was uneventful and was pretty much on time. Once off the plane we found Andrew and Kylie (a new friend of Andrews) at the baggage claim waiting to meet us. We were happy to see them and looked forward to getting on our way.

Andrew suggested some plans for the afternoon that we quickly agreed to and off we went. Our first stop was a museum at the airport that housed the first open cockpit plane to fly from England to Australia in less than a month. This was pretty amazing in those days and Andrew provided the story to go along with the plane.

Our next stop was Mt. Lofty Summitt which provides a fantastic view overlooking the city and the landscape below. Mt. Lofty sits at 727 meters. After a good look over the city Erin and I need to find some accomodation for the night. Andrew drove us back into town to check on a YHA hostel only to find out that they were full for the next week. We quickly learned that Adelaide was quite full from all of the people in town to see the full eclipse on Thursday near here. The full eclipse would only last 30 seconds or so if you were in the path of it and even less if you were not but it was "the" event to be at on Thursday.

Erin and I then opted to try Servas, a hosting service that we had signed up for but had never tried as of yet. Our first few calls found that people were either too busy or were not interested right now for guests. We finally tried Julie in Glenelg and even though she had plans for the evening said we were more than welcome to stay the night. Andrew drove us to Glenelg, a beach community, where we met Julie, dropped our stuff off, and thanked her for the accomodation.

Afterwards the four of us went for a walk along the beach where we watched folks set up chairs for a wedding outside the Grand Hotel before we made our way to a restaurant for dinner. Kylie and I had pizza while Erin and Andrew had other picks off the menu. After dinner we walked back by the wedding and along the pier before returning to the house. Andrew and Kylie said goodnight as we planned on meeting them at 10:00 am for a day at Victor Harbor tomorrow. Erin and I went back out to the local movie house where we enjoyed Harry Potter 2 before calling it a night just after midnight.
