Kaitlyn was due on June 10th and since that date had come and gone we decided to induce labor on Friday the 15th. We were originally scheduled to go in on Thursday evening to start the process (I will leave out the true gory stuff for our readers) but received a phone call late Thursday afternoon saying that the hospital was full so not to come in until Friday morning. We arrived Friday morning at 9:15 am and "broke the waters" at 10:30 am. We then sat around (as you can see above playing cards) waiting for contractions to kick in. Finally with some additional help of meds, the contractions started around 2:30 pm (dilated to 2cm). By 6:00 pm and still at 5-6 cm Erin was hurting so much that we reverted to an epidural. The epidural was inserted around 6:50 pm (Yes, another hour of pain for Erin while the doctor made his way to us). Once the epidural kicked in Erin was at a full 10cm within the next hour. After a few further arrangements Erin started "pushing" at just around 8:40 pm. After an hour of pushing the doctor came in just before 10:00 pm and with the help of some suction Kaitlyn Olana was born at 10:12 pm. Judy and I stayed with Erin at the hospital until almost 2:00 am helping get the baby settled and provide some initial bonding time for Mom and Dad (Yes, that is us!!!) |
