Ah, Munich. Home to Octoberfest at this time of year, of course! We arrived just in time for the last weekend of this annual drinking party, and were privileged to stay with friends who live right in the city. Accomodations within the city would otherwise be impossible, as reservations are needed as much as 7 months in advance for this 15 day festival!
Also key in Munich is the arts scene, as a wealth of museums with great art treasures exist there. This southern capital of the Bavarian state has its own abundant history and great beauty right outside the huge city center.
While there, we took a day trip out to the Neuschwanstein castle, which Walt Disney used as his model for the fantastic Sleeping Beauty castle. There are also multitudes of sights to visit all around the city and its widespread suburbs, including other gorgeous castles and the Dachau concentration camp. We stayed 5 days and barely got a taste for this wonderful city. |
