Viola Owlfeather's Harry Potter Box is not affiliated with J.K. Rowling, Bloomsbury Publishing, Scholastic Books, AOL/Time Warner, nor with anyone else officially associated with the Harry Potter series. It is not endorsed by any of the aforementioned parties. Rights to the characters and their likenesses are neither claimed nor implied. This is a private, non-commercial, unofficial website dealing exclusively with Rowling's books.

The Harry Potter books are a world of their own, incredibly rich in detail and bursting with brilliant, sparkling ideas! But there are many allusions and puns that are hard to discover and understand, so that you maybe overlook them at first reading. I do not want you to miss all this fun! Therefore I've started collecting such funny words, annotating and explaining them in this encyclopedia. Of course the Box never will be absolutely complete. If you notice a mistake or have a great idea, please don't hesitate to send me an owl!

Most contents of this site are aimed at German readers. I still have plans of translating them into English (some day yet hidden in a foggy future), but for the moment you must content yourself with the international contents if you don't read German. There's still a lot to explore - just take a look at the Duolingo Pages and the Chapter Overview. Not to forget the Harry Potter Bibliography, the most extensive scholarly bibliography on Harry Potter to be found on the web!

If you understand German, you are heartily invited to take a look into the Box. Since it contains far more than 500 keywords at the moment, I have decided to split it into five drawers. But these drawers would not be magical if they were not connected by lots of tiny holes between them. Two tools might help you to find what you are looking for:

The Master Index: A list of all the articles hidden in the Box.
The Concordance (mostly for German native speakers): Many terms and names in the Potter books have been changed in the German translation. The Box, however, is based on the original English edition. If you only know the German text and cannot find the keyword you are looking for, this list might prove helpful.

The Harry Potter Box presents the results of many hours of original work and research. I am proud of the fact that I do not just copy material from other websites, but have spend a lot of time in the library looking things up, checking dictionaries and reference books. Ergo: Please do not steal texts from this website! I know that you have enough imagination and talent to develop an original site of your own. If that's not enough to convince you, you might consider that there is something like intellectual property and copyright involved here.

Of course you may discuss the ideas and theses presented here elsewhere on the net. All I ask of you is to indicate clearly where the material you use originated and give me credit for my work, e. g. by linking to this page.
