MORLEY KELLS is presently serving his third term in the Ontario Legislature.  He sat for Humber riding from 1981 to 1985 and won the election for Etobicoke -Lakeshore in 1995 and 1999.
He began his political career by unsuccessfully contesting the original Lakeshore seat in the 1971 provincial election.  He then assumed duties as the Executive Assistant to the Minister of the Environment, the late James Auld.

Subsequently, in 1976 he was elected Alderman (Councillor) for his Ward One area and in 1978 he campaigned and won a Controller's seat for the City Of Etobicoke which also included membership on Metropolitan Toronto Council.  Mr. Kells lost his bid to become Mayor for Etobicoke in the 1980 municipal election.

His responsibilities as an elected provincial member have included a stint as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Transportation in 1983 and Parliamentary Assistant to Premier Mike Harris in 1998.  From 1998 to March 2000 he also served as the Ontario Olympics Commissioner.

He became Minister of the Environment in the Premier Frank Miller administration and left office upon the government's defeat in 1985.
Mr. Kells has served on numerous committees in both his municipal and provincial terms of office and while out of office he was a member of the Ontario Rent Review Hearings Board.

In April 1990, Morley was appointed the first full-time President of the Urban Development Institute/Ontario.  The Urban Development Institute/Ontario received its charter in 1957, as a professional, non-profit organization comprising firms engaged in the development of lands in the Province of Ontario. His appointment evolved as a response by U.D.I. to the increasingly active role taken by the Government of Ontario in the affairs of the land and building industry.
Morley
grew up in Mimico on the Lakeshore and has lived at the same address in the Bloor-Royal York are for over 30 years.  Prior to politics, he began his business career with the Telegram, a major Toronto newspaper, becoming Assistant Promotions Manager.  He then moved to Maclaren Advertising, Canada's largest agency as a Communications Account Executive.  His journalistic and sports background resulted in his appointment as Creative Director for Hockey Night in Canada from 1965-1970, which was directed by Maple Leaf Sports Productions, a division of Maclaren Advertising.  In the same period he was editor of the Maple Leaf Gardens Hockey Magazine.

Morley's extensive athletic endeavours have made him well known in Etobicoke, and throughout Canada, as a builder/owner of lacrosse teams and pioneer/founder of two major attempts to make lacrosse a truly professional sport.  In 1973, Morley was the first recipient of the Lester B. Pearson Award for his contribution to lacrosse.  He was subsequently elected to the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 1976 and is an original member of the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame.

Now entering his fourth decade in politics, Morley Kells has recently been appointed Parliamentary Assistant to the Hon. Chris Hodgson, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing.

Morley and his wife, Gloria, have four children and eight grandchildren.

MORLEY KELLS, MPP
ETOBICOKE-LAKESHORE
The role of an MPP's Constituency Office is to help the community in an elected representative's riding.  The Office serves as a liaison for the elected member, and, in the case of an MPP, will try and help out in any Provincial issues that the constituent has, such as OHIP, WSIB or FRO.  If you need assistance, you can call the Constituency Office and speak to someone who will ask you for information and either act as a liaison on your behalf or refer you to where you need to be, whether it is a municipal concern, a provincial issue, or a federal matter.

Q: When do you call the MPP's office?
A: You call an MPP's office when your problem, concern or complaint is PROVINCIAL in nature.  The MPP does not have jurisdiction over federal or municipal issues.

Q: What kinds of things can't my MPP help me with?
A: The MPP cannot become involved in issues that are legal in nature, have prior representation, such as a Union Rep. or paralegal, or matters that are currently in a judicial or quasi-judicial body, such as Landlord/Tenant disputes.   There are agencies in the community that can help you better.
