TESTIMONY

An Elder and a Minister were debating before a large group. The Elder concluded one of his epochs by bearing his testimoney and when he had finished, the Minister stood up and took the Elders place at the podium. The Minister then said, " I would like to ask the Elder a few questions " . Elder, How do you know all these things that you have expounded upon us so surely? (asking rhetorically) Do you know it by the evidence of SIGHT ? The Elder replied that he did not. Elder, Do you know it by the evidence of HEARING ? No, said the Elder. By the sense of TOUCH ? Again the Elders response was no. By the sense of TASTE ? Again the Elder replied no. Then you know it only by the sense of FEELING. Yes sir said the Elder.

The Minister then turned to the audiance and said " Here is a man, who comes to us with the statement that he knows as well as he knows anything, that Mormon church is the only true church. Yet when we come to inquire about this claim , his assurance is based on a testimony of only one of the five senses--- That of FEELING ". And then the Minister went on in his address to the audiance by elaborating on the absurdity of such a claim that one could know something for sure by a FEELING.

The Elder knew that he had to do something to bolster his position in the debate. The Elder Removed a pin from the cuff of his newly unpackaged shirt, bent it and placed it on the Ministers vacant chair. The Minister concluded his speech with fire, and sat down, only to immediately rise again.

The Elder acting suprised rose from his seat at the reaction of the Minister and innocently asked " Whats the matter " ? " Whats the matter " ? He quickly asked again. The upset Minister then said, You know very well what the matter is and then asked the Elder Why he had put a pin in his chair?

The Elder replied , how do you know that I put a pin in your chair? Did you SEE me do it? Did you HEAR me do it? TASTE or SMELL it? No! The Minister replied, I just have a FEELING that you did it.

The Elder then addressing the audiance said " Here is a man who would have us believe that he knows that I put a pin in his chair based on nothing more than a FEELING". And then the Elder labored upon the inadequacy of the evidence which the Minister had presented.
