Amy Nichols Day Dear Friends, This letter from the Dya's is being written by me ("Joshua" - now 12 years old) as part of a class "assignment." I thought I'd just include a few things that have happened over the year, and Mum has added a bit here and there. In January we four children went to El Shaddai, Wellington for a CYC kids camp. Alexandra (Lexie - 15 years old) was a junior leader and the rest of us were campers. We had a great time. It lasted a week and when we got back boy were we tired! Alexandra's and GEorgina's basketball team won the grand finals and became the Premiers! (thanks to mum's coaching) Lexie started a part time job at the local Pizza Hut. It is handy having your sister work at a pizza store because you basically have pizza every week! (not to mention she gets a discount on every pizza) (Mum says it's not quite true about the pizza every week, but it sounds good anyway!!) Thomas (10 years old) and I are in a church junior youth group called Prime Time. We perform plays in church and do presentations - I was a main character in the alst one. My older sisters are in a different youth group and they have their formal dinner to conclude youth group this Friday! Georgina (13 years old) and I are part of a school rock band called EMBER. I have no idea how we got that name but rumor has it stands for Even My Band Eternally Rocks! That's not true but it's a pretty cool thought. We perform songs that are in fashion and are played on the radio. I love playing the guitar, and Georgina drives us all insane by playing the piano and singing constantly, but she's pretty good at it! Still on the topic of music, Georgie and Thomas are in the Intermediate Choir and Georgie is in the Intermediate Band. I used to be in the band but gave it up so I could do Computer Design. The choir performs in all different types of places and this year they have been given the honour of singing at our school speech night and at a a"Carols by Candlelight" at their teacher's church. Earlier on in the year, they performed in a massive festival, called the JSHAA music festival at the town hall - They say it was an exciting experience. When I was in the band we also went to the town hall to participate in a band festival. There was a music competition at school that Georgina went in and she made it into the finals. At home she was driving us mad playing the song over and over again. She made up some of the words and the tune was to "You are my all in all". The finalists played in front of the whole school of about 1000 students! The 1st prize in her age group was $100, the 2nd prize was $75 and the 3rd prize was $50. She came runner up with a prize of $10. She has since found out that missed out on the 3rd placeby a quarter of a mark!!! For the past two years I have been having guitar lessons but my little brother is taking over next year, so that he can add to the musicality of the family. We 3 younger children and mum went in the salisbury Christmas Pageant and it was very fun!! We dressed up in a friend's costumes as Garfield, Plucka Duck, Wags the Dog and a clown, and were first off the rank, carrying the banner. It all began when Thomas expressed a desire to be a part of the pageant and mum was roped in because we needed someone else to hold up the big banner. At our school house dinner in November, Lexie was awarded the Most Outstanding Female for her house. She is also one of 2 House Captain's and a Campus Senior for 2003. Georgina, whowas a Junior House Captain was awarded the "Junior Encouragement Award" for a second time (Lexie has also received it twice) and I was awarded the Most House Points Shield! I was relly happy to receive it as it shows I am following in my darling sister's footsteps! (Georgina put that last line in!!) Not much has changed for mum and dad. Dad's still at Bunnings and Mum still does secretarial work for our Uncle Murray who is a sports chaplain, along with helping those who need a hand. That's about all I can think of so that wraps it up! We wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!! Joshua (On behalf of the family) |
