DID YOU KNOW that Jeff's Great-Grandfather,
Howard Sedinger, was the Coalwood, WV Singles Tennis Champion in 1926?
If Coalwood, WV sounds familiar to you, it is because it was the childhood
home of Homer Hickam, noted author and speaker. Mr. Hickam's most
memorable book is probably Rocket Boys, the book by which the movie
October Sky was based. Mr. Sedinger defeated Dr. Hale, a dentist
that moved to Coalwood from New York, to win the 1926 Coalwood Championship.
This picture shows Howard Sedinger (left) and Dr. Hale (right).
Jeff, who is a collector of tennis memorabilia, is the proud owner of
both Mr. Sedinger's racket and the trophy shown in Dr. Hale's hand.
Quite a long way from Coalwood, WV to Wimbledon!
