The Journey Begins!

This page will be an attempt to document the building of our boat, "Culebrita". My wife and I came across the web page for the Stevenson designed boats (Stevensons Web site) one day and decided to give it a shot. We've dabbled at sailing in the past and we had recently spent our honeymoon in the Carribean. Culebrita is the name of a very small island that is the junior to the main island of Culebra, which is located between Puerto Rico and St. Thomas. Watching the sailors come and go over the days rekindled our interest in boats and sailing.

And so...here we go chasing another dream.........

1.These photos show the keel, hull bottom assembly and deck.

Oct 21, 2003: I had a very good weekend! I managed to attach the transom, lazarette front, bulkheads and deck. We've gone 3-D!!

Dec, 2003: We moved the boat out to the ranch of our friends, Genie and Vicky Poncia, which is located to east side of Tomales Bay.

Feb 11, 2004: I've been able to work on the boat every day for the past week and a half. Since I posted the last photos, we've completed the bowsprit bits and chocks, the forward hatch, the mastbox, cabin walls, and rafters (chocks are rough cut and will be sanded tomorrow). The Rudder box is near completion and I'm about to begin work on the rudder. I expect to have the steering in place within the next week. Here are some photos:

And at the bottom of the hill, Tomales Bay awaits!

My other passion is for tube guitar amps!
