The sound is new yet strangely familiar.  The feeling is intense, yet somehow comforting in all of its intensity.  The appeal transcends cultural and generational differences.  Now, by means of the recently released single “Promised Land/Pie in the Sky”; their first CD release entitled simply “MOSES” (both available online through CDBaby.com); and hot live performances, MOSES continues its millennial music invasion  – an experience, not soon to be forgotten!!!

The three-piece unit, named for the band’s leader singer/song-writer/master guitarist Chuck Moses, calls its style of music “neo-classic rock & blues” describing it as “new tunes with a classic vibe. Only we’ve taken it a step further, by means of evolution and not revolution.”  Central to the band’s sound is masterful guitar work álà Page/Buchanan/Jeff Beck and its catchy, hard-driving lyrics. “If you’re a fan of the guitar in any form or fashion, you’re gonna love this band, MOSES,” states TV rock personality Ross Byron. It is a masterful recipe that rocks. It rolls. It belongs.

Meet the band behind the music:

CHUCK MOSES grew up in the heart of industrial America in the steel town of Lyndora, PA.  He picked up his first guitar at age 7, studied rock’s guitar greats at the family stereo, and emerged an undisputed guitar master at age 15.  At 17 he began writing songs that today form the basic repertoire of the MOSES band.  Over the years, Moses has built a reputation as a leading performer and an in-demand studio musician playing on many releases in the past several years. He has played live and recorded with musicians as diverse as world-renowned Indian Guru Sri Ganapathi Sachchidananda Swamiji... to Punk rocker Cheetah Chrome of the Dead Boys.

“People always seem drawn to him,” said one loyal fan. His experience during a several month stay in Eastern Europe bear this out. Moses was able to transcend local suspicion of the West with his long blond curls and a satchel of new and familiar tunes. Performing live to sold-out crowds, he liberally offered the songs that had once nurtured the growing desire for freedom behind the Iron Curtain.  With the experience of a colorful lifetime of musical performance, college, and world travel under his belt, Chuck continues to give way to the creative impulse.

VIMALA (pronounced VEE-ma-la), bass player for the band states, "My first recollection of music was singing ‘Climb, Climb Up Sunshine Mountain’ as a 3-year-old in church." A native of Erie, PA, Vimala’s music career continued for years in the context of religious music, though her infatuation with the Beatles and other classic rock icons is unmistakable. She now thrives as the band’s bass player, support vocalist, and female energy source. Exposed to music from an early age, she brings her experience in keyboard, oboe, acoustic guitar, and classical voice to the band and bass guitar.  With sassy attitude and bass strings in hand she builds the deep and subtle bridge of sound that provides the backbone of the MOSES band. SITTING IN on DRUMS this fall are BILL SMITH of Grove City, PA, STEVE McMURRY of Franklin, PA, and RYAN BURNS, also of Grove City, PA. These dynamic percussionists in turn  complete the MOSES trio.

Recently dubbed “The biggest little guitar band around,” MOSES has performed its high energy, professional, upbeat shows in front of classic rock acts Journey and Foreigner, and later, STYX and Bad Company at the Post-Gazette Pavilion at Star Lake near Pittsburgh, PA. MOSES has also performed at such noted events as the Easy Riders Rock & Blues Festival, in Chillicothe, OH, and opened for Union (with ex-Kiss guitarist Bruce Kulick and ex-Motley Crüe singer John Corabi) at Sherlock’s in Erie, PA.

The band’s recent acceptance into the prestigious club scene in Greenwich Village, NYC (most notably Don Hill’s “Röck Cändy” shows hosted by Steve Blush) led to their recent appearance on Manhattan’s MNN-TV Ch. 56 show “Byron’s Red Roller.” “You guys are ROCKIN’!!!,” said one call-in fan.

There is little wonder about the enthusiasm. MOSES shows combine the elements of rock & blues’ glory years with fresh faces, new tunes, a refreshing return to style in staging and costuming, and a yin-yang balancing act inherent in its mixed-gender make-up. Something dynamic happens as the threesome weaves its spell in and around the audience.  Fans may find themselves transported into the greater cosmos for a short while, then returned safely home again. The possibilities are endless. But it is a ride well worth the taking...
