8/12/99

Woodleigh Raceway's
Woodleigh Special Stage - Dec 5, 1999

This race-meet was formatted differently when compared to past race-meets. All racers present (who rode machines ranging from 50cc to 125cc) were lined up in two rows. Pee Wee 50 & 80cc bikes started off 5 seconds earlier than 2-stroke 80's, then 125's (or the 125) a few seconds later.

Moto-1

At first it was quite confusing to keep up with all that was going on, but we got the hang of it after a little while. In the pee wee's it was Jared Wright & Dimitrey Right all the way in the 50cc & 80cc classes respectivley. 2-stroke 80's had Sebastian Ray unable to start due to a fouled plug. Hole-shot went to Alan Langdon followed by Ryan Scott (on his new year 2000 YZ 125), John Ammar Jr. & Luke Hamilton. Scott took the lead on lap 2 & Langdon did his best not to buckle under the pressure of Ammar.

Scott left the smaller machines behind as Ammar while in 3rd would not let Langdon out of his sight. Ammar went down, but was able to get up & retake 3rd place from Luke Hamilton.

Riders were scored based on class, so Scott won the 125's, Langdon, Ammar, & Hamilton in 1st, 2nd, & 3rd (in the 80's) respectivley.

Moto-2

Same finishing results for the Pee Wee's. But the big boys had their fun as usual. Sebastian Ray sorted out his bike problems & started out in fourth behind Scott, Langdon, & Ammar in 1st through 3rd respectivley. Very early in the moto Langdon went down while in second & held up Ammar. Ray went round them both and stayed there (into second place for the moto, 1st for the 80cc class).Langdon got up and off in front of Ammar still. Luke Hamilton, unfortunately was plagued by falls the whole day. Later in the race, John Ammar went into a corner with Langdon in front of him, gave him a little love tap, and came out with Langdon behind him. Fortunately for Langdon, Ammar fell only a few corners later.

Ryan Scott finished 1st
Sebastian Ray - 2nd (1st in 80cc)
Alan Langdon - 3rd (2nd in 80cc)
John Ammar - 4th (3rd in 80cc)
Hamilton - 5th (4th 80cc)

Moto-3

Amazingly Jared Wright on the smaller machine pulled out the hole-shot in the Pee Wee's, he went on to finish in front for the final moto. John Ammar also stole the lead for the 2-stroke 80cc class, & this time never looked back. Ammar pulled away from everyone, Including Ryan Scott. While in second placel, Scott went down in the very same corner that Sale had went down (at
Castrol Cross), & it seemed that  Scott would suffer from the same fate. Fortunately it looked like he had twisted his ankle, but Scott did not finish the race & walked off the track on his own.

So that left Sebastian Ray in second, Alan Langdon in 3rd & Luke Hamilton in 4th (both in thier class & in the moto). Ray was completely out of the picture for the overall 80cc win (because he was unable to race moto-1). Langdon would need to place 2nd in the final moto or better to win the overall, that did not happen as he finished in 3rd. Therefore, John Ammar with a huge lead took the moto-3 win as-well-as the overall victory.

Great ride by everyone. Congratulations to all the overall winners & all who took moto wins as well. Woodleigh Special Stage was without a doubt the most exciting meet we have seen at Woodleigh Raceway!
