Woodliegh Raceway's Thundercross Race-Meet - August 1, 1999

A good croud turned out at Woodliegh despite all of the activities and parties which took place on the 1st.
It is a shame that we did not get a photo, but Nitetrax Disco played during intermissions. If you are'nt familiar with Nitetrax Disco, you should come out to the races; this disco aint nothin' but the biggest pick up truck anyone has ever seen. Beutiful work changed this truck from a spacious Ford F-350 King Cab, to a mobile set of 12-inch speakers & a fair share of amplifiers. All we can say is, You Should Have Been There.

Missing From the action:

Craig Beharry, it was very suprising that Beharry was not at the races. If you had seen CVM sports news Thursday prior to the race meet, you saw Craig Beharry (his name was spelled totally wrong on the news, they put Greg Bahaire) saying that he was gonna come out and try his best on race-day.

Alan Langdon,
we dont understand. He showed up at the last meet held on the 4th of July, as a spectator. This time around he was totally absent. Hopefully he is in transit to the 125cc class.
Ryan Scott,
like Lngdon, an 80cc pilot was not at the meet. We know as a fact that he is selling his bke in hopes of obtaining a 125, so that he may contest with Powell, Sale & other 125 riders.
Darell Ho,
this kid showed up at the last meet on a new bike (which was a birthday/GSAT present) & had a lot of fun. Where was he?

If you know any of these people, do us a favour and loud them up!!

Racing
PeeWee

Jared Wright won the croud as well as the overall victory in the Pee-Wee class at Woodliegh. Wright totally controlled the first moto, while he lapped some of his competitors. The second moto was the race of the day, 6-year old Jared found himself in second place behind Lee Vaz. Wright made the most courageous attempt to pass for the lead over the finish line on the last lap, by actually jumping the double (this is unheared of) only to case the landing and go down. Unfortunately he did not win the moto, as Vaz had actually reached the line first. The next moto belonged to Wright, along with the overall and the croud.

80cc

John Ammar took victory in all 3 motos over Timmy Overton. Not without a little battle in the second moto though, Overton took the lead and the two duked it out for 2 laps until Ammar regained the advantage. Overton's front end slipped from underneath him afterwards in that moto. Moto-3 was, just as Moto-1, a runaway victory for Ammar. Timothy Overton was definately tired from the heat (weather wise & battle wise).

125cc
Christian Sale turned in another bright preformance at Thundercross. Sale topped Craig Powell and Victor Handal, who placed second and third overall respectivley. Craig Powell did not make it a total walk over though, as he took the lead in the second moto for a couple of laps. Unfortunately for Powell, the lead was retaken by Sale in the same corner that #00 had earlier captured it. Sale, exited about tha win in the second moto put his fist in the air over th finish line jump.
The third moto saw Powell going down in the first corner after another Christian Sale holeshot. Powell got up quickly though, and faught Victor Handal for third place, eventually taking the position away.

250cc

It was great to see a race in the 250 class. This time around we saw Wayne Mangue, John Ammar, & Suzuki mounted David Bucknor. Racing was close, but the main battle was for second place behind John Ammar. Mangue won second place ober Bucknor in motos 1 & 2, with Bucknor going down twice in moto-1. But it was Moto-3 that showed the determination of David Bucknor, as he stuck to Wyane Mangue untill the final lap, when he got underneath his new rival to take second place. Unfortunately, that was not enough to beat Mangue in the overall standing. John Ammar with a solid sweep, Wyane Mangue in second with a 2-2-3 moto score, and David Bucnor in third.

Sprint Class

Big action & a big spill. This race consisted of 6 riders - Handal, Mangue, Sale, Powell, Bucknor, & Ammar. Off of the start it was Ammar on the YZ 400, suprisingly followed by Sale on his Yamaja Engines Ltd. YZ 125(narrowly escaping collision between Mangue's front wheel his head), & Powell in third. What is suprising is the fact that both Sale & Powell started much better than the 250cc machines of Mangue & Bucknor. On the first lap, Mangue overshot a berm and went off the track. Ammar lead, with Sale on him, this guy (Sale) looked to be pushing it, but Ammar would pull away on the straights. Ammar & Sale would pull away from Powell, untill the 3rd lap, when Christian Sale went down hard. Sale and his bike took a good tumble, the race was red flagged, he twisted his knee & was taken back to the pit area via ambulance.
Upon a roling restart (nascar style), Powell took the lead away from Ammar!! It was very suprising, but Ammar kept his composure, and claimed back frist place on the straight away. Behind the two leaders Mangue made a great charge up into 3rd position, he capitalized the most from the restart as he had no chance of podium contention earlier on.
Final results had Ammar taking victory with Powell in 2nd spot, & Mangue in 3rd. Fourth was Bucknor, & in 5th position, Handal. Sale - DNF, of course.

This does'nt even show half the croud
