"Dammit. That was a nice car" she said.

After I drove my 944 off a cliff, I was pretty amazed to be alive and basically unhurt. Never -- ever -- did I dream that someone well known to me would do almost exactly the same thing, on the same road, in exactly the same circumstances....

Highway 84 West of the 280 freeway is a beautiful, twisting, hilly and unforgiving road.

My friend did almost exactly what I did; and stuffed her car into a deep canyon. Except she nailed the first tree backwards, and then went backwards down into the night -- and smack into another tree. (I went over the edge forward in my 944.) This adventure was in her champagne gold metallic Euro 280SL. And she's right, it was a nice car... A 5-speed, too.

This occured on a different part of Hwy 84 than which claimed my first 944, and both of our mishaps occured between 11pm and midnight.

She came around a corner, saw a deer in the middle, and tried to swerve. She caught the edge of the road with her tires (passenger side) and the car swapped ends. It collected a redwood tree going backwards at about 45 MPH.

The car impacted on the passenger's side rear bumper, and her car was dusted. It rolled down the canyon backwards, until it finally stopped against an oak tree. The tow truck guy said he used 135 feet of cable getting it out.

smashed Mercedes

She had her seatbelt on, and was unhurt, although she did say she hit her head. The driver's window was broken out, by the way. A hard-headed girl, in a tough-as-nails car.
