Finding my way around (or knowing exactly where I am)!

Navigation is the Australian bush and outback can be difficult. Some maps are..... inadequate! An Eagle Explorer GPS helps me to pinpoint exactly where I am (plus or minus the 100 metres or so of military error!). A word of advice though, spend a few dollars more and get the next model up with the audible alarm and remote antenna. You can't watch the GPS and drive safely!

Mounting the GPS proved to be a bit of a problem. I found the ideal location, but needed to put in some reinforcing in the form of a piece of sheet metal to make the plastic a little more rigid. The eagle explorer is able to acquire sufficient satellites from this position to get an accurate fix.

Here's the result! With the Round-A-Mount the GPS can be angled so that it can be seen by the front seat passenger or angled toward the driver. Removing the woodgrain facia involved undoing two screws above the speedo/tacho and a screw above the light switch. Unfortunately the service people who fitted the security alarm warning light had taken care of the fourth screw above the cigarette lighter! The plastic into which it screws had been broken. (The things you learn when you do a bit of work on the car yourself!!!!)

The mounting system is by round-a-mount (RAM)
