The
Technique of Motor Racing In his prophetic foreword to "The Technique of Motor Racing," Fangio anticipates the importance Piero Taruffi's book would have for a generation of new drivers. Trained as both a racing driver and an industrial engineer, Taruffi provides a unique perspective on the art and science of motor racing. He drove for the work teams of Ferrari, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Mercedes-Benz, and others, in a career that spanned over 25 years and was crowned by his victory in the 1957 Mille Miglia. First published in 1959, "The Technique of Motor Racing" has become the standard by which other driving texts are measured. Road & Track Magazine |
One favourite memory in Formula 1 is a young Jean Alesi leading the Monaco in a Ferrari, with legend Ayrton Senna hot on his rear wing. The tight and twisty street circuit at Monaco is extremely difficult to overtake on, but the incredible Ayrton Senna finally made it past Alesi by out-braking him on a corner.
Incredibly, Alesi overtook Senna on the very next corner! The move amazed everyone, including Senna who praised the Frenchman for his contest!
Sadly, that's about the last memory of poor Alesi, once touted as the next big thing. In the 2001 season he is the oldest man on the circuit, driving for struggling Team Prost headed by Senna's old foe, "The Professor" Alain Prost.
