Dale Earnhardt   1951 - 2001

The Nascar Community has lost it's greatest driver ever

-----Bill France-----

The Nascar community is in shock.  Dale Earnhardt, the 7 time Winston Cup
Champion died on February 18, 2001 in the final turn of the final lap at the
Daytona Motor Speedway.  Dale lived life to it's fullest.  He accomplished what
only 1 other driver has ever done.  He was the winningest driver ever at
Daytona.  He won 76 races, the Daytona 500, and the No Bull Million.  But he
did something no other driver has ever done.  He made Nascar what it is today.

Every once in a while a person comes along in life that serves as a role model,
or your hero.  For me it was Dale Earnhardt.  He epitomized the word champion.
He was aggressive.  He had the burning desire to achieve. He was a devoted family
man. He was a winner not only on the track, but off it as well.  He entertained us
week after week, season after season.  He never gave up.  But on Sunday Feb 18,
2001 we saw another side of Dale Earnhardt.  We saw an unselfish man who elected
to protect the lead of his new driver, Michael Waltrip and his son Dale Jr.  Instead
of trading paint and going for the win which was with in his grasp, he held back
and protected his people.  In the end, it cost him his life.  He died doing what he
loved the most, competing.

God Speed Dale Earnhardt.  You have taken that final checkered flag.  You are a
winner and a true champion.  The sport of Nascar racing won't be the same with
out you, but it is a better place because of you.

Our prayers are with the Earnhardt family, RCR, DEI and the entire Nascar Family.
We loved you Dale.  We always will.

Meet Team DEI

Dale Earnhardt Jr.(#8 BUD),  Steve Park (#1 Penzoil),  Micheal Waltrip (#15 Napa)

Do you believe in magic??

Or should I say Divine Intervention???   What a strange week of racing.  First a long
rain delay that allows the network expanded tributes to Dale.  Then, on the first lap
Little E is hit from behind and goes head on into the wall??  Is there a message here
somewhere???  Thankfully Dale Jr is ok.  Finally, a persistent rain washes out the race
even though weather radar shows it clear.  (Ever hear the song Tears from Heaven?)

On Monday the race continues under clear skies.  And low and behold, it's a team DEI
car that runs up front.  At one point, two DEI cars were 1 and 3.  And finally, Steve Park
in the DEI Penzoil car came across the finish line first.  And, he runs out of fuel at the
line.  I just wonder what Steve really saw the very last time he looked in the mirror.
Was there really a green #18 behind him?  Or for a split second, was there a Mile Wide
Black #3 there pushing him across?  And, I just wonder, in victory lane did he feel that
"Grab on the Back of The Neck" and a whisper in his ear saying "That's What I'm
Talking About".
Congratulations Steve Park.  That was a hell of a drive and you did your owner proud.

The tears never came this week.  I don't why.  Maybe to much shock.  But in the final
moments of Monday's race, they sure did.

Somewhere, in a better place than this earth, I'm sure there is a grandstand.  And I'm
sure that at the top of turn four, they were on their feet cheering Steve Park on with
the loudest cheers coming from Ralph, Neil, Adam, Kenny, and the Intimidator
himself, Dale Earnhardt

 Thank You Dale

What a great season for RCR and DEI in 2000.  Both Dei cars won races and Dale Earnhardt
is the
2000 Winston Cup runner up.  I'll take it!!!

Congratulations Bobby Labonte.

2000 Nascar Winston Cup Champion
