TATA INDIGO

The sensational Indigo is much more than just "an Indica with a boot". The Indigo has substantial engineering behind it. Most people had expected to see a regular hatchback to sedan conversation, but Tata engineers have proved these pre-conceived notions wrong. They have shaped up a very capable and efficient machine. Added to this, the sensational pricing will shake this segment at its roots. Keep tabs on the response of Indigo's competitors, they are bound to respond with massive price slashes. At the front, the Indigo continues the Indica lineage, barring one noticeable feature which is the presence of a dainty chrome strip at the top of the smiling grille. The B-pillar also remains intact but it is from the C-pillar that the design is brilliant. The flow from the B-pillar to the boot is linear and well proportioned. The engine has also undergone myriad but valuable changes and this is noticeable while the car is on the move. The Indigo has been launched in petrol and diesel versions. The Indica's 1405cc diesel engine has been turbocharged and generates 62 horses, and 12.9 kgm at 2500 revs. The old 1405cc MPFI petrol engine has also been reworked, and now makes 85 bhp and 11.4 kgm of torque at 3000 rpm. The suspension is also well sorted out and when driven hard the car does not wilt. This is one car to watch out for and only time will tell if it can achieve the same success of the Indica.
