Tom’s Bits!

Since you last heard from me I’ve been on my travels. The end of May I was at Bridgnorth in Shropshire for the Moto Guzzi Club GB International rally. if you have never been in this area before it’s well worth visiting. The Severn Valley Railway leaves from Bridgnonh and a few miles away is fronbridge. Ther are many pottery museums and things associated with the industrial revolution to see. June 13 and it was off to Holland for their Guzzi Club International rally. As last year it was a seriously well organised event. I dont know how many people turned up but it must have been around 800. The bands were good and the raffle prize was a secondhand 650cc V65 Moto Guzzi. The bonus of course was to stand in the local clubhouse bar with 30 Germans watching England stuff them 1 -0 on the big screen! They were not happy bunnies.
To sum up the two rallies I can only say that the Dutch have probably forgotten more about rallies than the Club GB ever knew, which is a bit sad.
On the Sunday after the rally I headed off to Amsterdam with six friends from Liverpool and Brian from Southampton, and we camped a 20 minute walk from the centre. Sightseeing was the order of the day, and of course savouring the atmosphere of Euro 2000 with the fans. A great place for a short stay I have never seen so many ‘space cadets’ in one place before. A good reason for keeping drugs illegal in this country. Well, did we visit the red light area? Do the Dutch wear clogs and live in windmills?
Yes wedid, and l have to say it was not as bad as l thought it would be.

The next day we left -the Scousers to visit Brugge in Belgium, another overnight stop in a guest house this time. A very similar city to Amsterdam, lots of canals and bridges. The buildings are exactly the same in design as well, but not the same bustle as Amsterdam. A great place for our last stop of the break.

Next month’s Wednesday evening run will be July 19th meet the usual place at 7pm (see calendar) Let;’s hope for some good evening sunshine as this is another scenic ride via Bere Regis and Tincleton. We will cross the river Frome, pass Woodsford Castle, taking in Broadmayne, and we will finish up at the Springhead in Sutton Poyntz. if you have never been here before you are in for a real treat; this is a forgotten corner of Dorset.

Keep yowr knees in the breeze

Tom

Tom’s last evening run took us round the Purbecks on roads that even I haven’t travelled for years and I live there! John’s been trying to find them again without much luck he found a deep ford though! Derek’s Ariel Leader found it all a bit much we hope it wasn’t a very expensive ..... . .Ed.
