About the Mousai Quartet |
Deriving its name, “Mousai,” from the term for nine ancient Greek goddesses of music, dancing, poetry, and other art forms, the Mousai String Quartet strives to embrace its music with the passion and understanding of such deities. It is based in Cleveland, Ohio at the Cleveland Institute of Music and was formed in 2001. Charged with deeply committed musicians as well as budding young artists, the quartet includes violinists Sonja Harasim and Jennifer Kozbial, violist Hana Morford, and cellist Erin Ellis. The quartet rehearses daily and receives coachings from Peter Salaff (former violinist of the Cleveland Quartet) weekly in an effort to perfect its group balance and unity of sound, enhance its musical interpretations, and to explore the vast range of string quartet repertoire. The Mousai Quartet also performs frequently in studio classes and various recitals at school as well as in outreach concerts in the community. Additionally, the quartet (full of experienced musicians) would be pleased to play for any event you might have, including weddings, parties, corporate events, and church functions.
