About the World
and Save Money Too
We all live in the same world, yet there is poverty and environmental pillaging running rampant. This is not a tree-huggers page. But everyone wants to know how to save money....
Saving money can be as easy as changing a light bulb.

The average person uses an average of five 60 watt bulbs every day for an average of 3 hours.

simple math
60 watts x 5 bulbs 3 hours x 365 days =328500 watts for 1 year

We pay for electricity in Kilo-watt-hours so, if your electric company charges 10 cents per Kilowatthour, you'd pay $38.25 for 1 year of using 5 light bulbs for three hours each day.

That's not too bad, eqivalent to 2 or three fill-ups at the gas station with a small car.

If you were to change those light bulbs you could save yourself over 75%. Instead of paying almost $40 you'd be paying $9.56 for the same 3 hours with 5 bulbs generating the same 60 watt brightness...

Would it make you feel better if those bulbs were warrenteed for 5 years of life?

simple math again
$38.25 x 5 years = $191.25
or
$9.56 x 5 years = $47.80

No fancy product, don't need any special skills to get it and I'm not selling it.
You'll find them at your local grocery and hardware stores in the light bulb isle.
They're called compact fluorescent bulbs...made by a variety of well known manufacturers.
They're the bulbs with the little loops and squiggles that cost between $4 and $20 per bulb. Four dollars for one bulb sounds pretty expensive, concidering you can get 4 regular bulbs for a dollar. But the compact fluorescent pay for themselves...
more simple math
$4 x 5 bulbs = $20 plus $47.80 = $67.80
for cost and use of 5 bulbs for 3 hours a day
for 5 years....
Isn't $67.80 less than $191.25?

Well, what if you pay $7 per bulb?
simple math revisited
$7 x 5 bulbs = $35 plus $47.80 = $82.80
Hmm...still less than $191.25.

Interesting Fact...
A conventional 100 watt light bulb is used in an Easy-Bake Oven to bake cakes and cookies.
Most conventional ovens are set to 325 degrees to bake cakes and cookies.
Observation
Those bulbs must be very hot!

Imagine leaving the stove open set to 325 degrees for 3 hours every day during the summer time.
Your air conditioning unit is going to be putting in some overtime.
Another Interesting Fact
Florescent bulbs average between 90 and 120 degrees.

Changing your bulbs could save you a lot more than just operating cost of the bulbs and because they don't generate as much heat there is a reduced risk of fire and burns.

One more bonus, less energy used means less coal and petrolium burnt to supply our homes with electricity.
70% of the energy produced in the United States comes from Coal and Petrolium products. Coal and Petrolium products are non-renewable resources which, when burnt, release pollutants like CO2 and Carbon Monoxide into the air we breath.
