Proof that Canadians Do Make Good Movies After All

This 1978 thriller received almost no attention and slipped into quiet obscurity, probably because it was made in Canada. Another reason might be its chief defect: Elliot Gould's character, a struggling bank employee, is sympathetic mostly by default; the psychopathic career criminal who is his chief adversary is so much worse than he could ever be, and the bankers for whom he works don't seem very nice either. This could have been a comedy-action flick, but its makers were going for taut, grim suspense. That, and the graphic but not gratuitous violence, mean it's not a film for everyone. Excellent acting and high production values make it the Elliot Gould movie for people who don't like Elliot Gould.
