This instrumental version of Mozart's first comic opera is charming and cheerful! This opera was not only Mozart's first German opera, but also the first full-length German opera ever to be performed in Vienna, so Mozart had to make it flawless or nearly so. He did a beautiful job creating an increadible work of art that rivals the great operas of his later life. Very bouncy and upbeat until about 1:04 where it very suddenly becomes soft, rising again into a beautiful and very fitting crescendo, then back again to the soft melody. The song fits perfectly with the theme of the opera, sounding like waves going up and down, rising and falling as the song continues. At the 2:42 mark it becomes something entirely different. More formal and stiff, it gains a compleatly different melody. This catchy tune unfortunatly will get stuck in your head much easier then the first half of the song, but that's quite all right with me. The violin and viola sections especially shine through up until the final note. |
