One of the most stunning pieces on this CD set! A harsh, dark, and depressing end to Mozart most depressing opera, Don Giovanni. In the film, Salieri comments how he secrety whorshiped "the sound I alone seemed to hear." The opera is this way, quite like Le Nozze Di Figaro, the first time you hear it, it's nothing more than an odd sounding opera. But listening to it more, you come to really love and appreciate this amazing song. The opera itself is a black story of murder and revenge, not to mention a bit of the supernatural. In this scene, Don Giovanni is haunted by the statue of a man whom he killed earlier in the opera. The statue threatens him and gives him a chance to repent. When he does not, demons are summoned, the room bursts into flames, and Don Giovanni is finally taken to hell. The screaming, death, and horror are unusual for a Mozart opera. One can only speculate why he wrote it. Wether it was a shadow of his dead but still dominating father, like is shown in Amadeus, or some other force at work in his mind, this gripping song is one of his greatest!
(As always, this is the midi version, which sucks, but gives you a clue)
