W. A. Mozart: Piano concerto in E flat

A soft and charming Piano Concerto, that spoils itself by being too long. I know they say, you turn into what you hate, and I always hated people who complained about the length of classical music, but really, this is a peice that relies a bit heavily on one theme to carry it the entire eleven minutes and eleven seconds. I love this concerto, don't get me wrong, I just think it would be as effective if a few minutes of unneeded repeats were eliminated. The main theme is very upbeat and happy (Side note for fans of Amadeus, remember the delightful scene in the film that this was played? His concert, while Salieri snuck into his house. Fits perfectly, doesn't it?) The main theme cuts off into a softer side theme that lasts a few minutes and is quite a welcome contrast. Soon the happy sound returns and grows into a large flourish that strangely does not signal the end. Oh no, my firend, the end is still quite a ways off. We still have to repeat the main theme and a variation a few million times. (Sorry for saying that Wolfi) The variation on the main theme around the 10:25 mark is very striking. And a darker variation at 10:41 is also nice. The ending is grabbing, but a bit rushed. Which is odd, since we seem to be teased throughout the peice with false endings. All in all, it's a very nice piano concerto, one of my favorites, with a few minor flaws. Hey, I dare you to write one better!
