The firey, vengful mood of this aria is matched only by it's lovely sound. It's known internationally as one of the most beautiful and difficult aria's ever written. When you hear it, it's difficulty will be obvious. There are times when the soprano has to hold an extreamly hard note for upwards of seven or eight bars. The Queen of the Night sings of revenge, death, innocent lives taken, and a curse. It's interesting to note that in Amadeus this song is played right after the scene where Constanze's mother chews Wolfi out, fuffilling the "Mother's curse" bit of the song, and the "should innocent lives be taken" is a foreshadowing of Mozart's death. The song itself is highly symbollic, powerful, and dark. Along with the Requiem and Don Giovanni, it shows Mozart dark, morbid and pessimistic side that was dominent of his final years.
