A beautiful, soft, aria from an opera that was never performed, never even completed or titled in Mozart's lifetime. It's a mystery why he suddenly decided to drop the work, and the opera Zaide is one of the biggest mysterys of his musical life. It is different because the way it is presented on this CD, half of it is in English, the other is in Italian. The beautiful soprano sings of dreams and setting your heart free, which certainly applied to Mozart's life at the time. Being controlled by his dominent father, and the Archbishop, freedom was one of the only things he wanted and he found it in his music. The increadible singing is backed up with simple string parts, mostly for the cello and violin. There is no real noticable feeling you get from this aria, no real passionate movments, which is it's only drawback.
