Starring in the 1984 film, Amadeus, Tom Hulce risked self-image and his budding career to perform a chancy portrayal of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in a style that had never been done before. This launched an amazing chain-reaction of Mozart appreciation and admiration from millions of fans who were just introduced to the great genius by Hulce's award winning performance. In addition, Hulce lent his incredible voice to Disney for thier film The Hunchback of Notre Dame, showing the world his very talented singing voice. The imapct his song performance had on the audience was so great that he has been celebrated as the one of the most talented actor/singers of our day. As a boy, Hulce had longed to be a singer, but when his voice changed, he switched to acting instead. Though it's obvious he has remarkable talent as an actor, his longing to be a singer paid off, and even today he shows off his voice and acting skills on stage. His first major role was in the drama Equus where he played the lead (this was also was his first role that involved nudity) It is unclear how much Hulce's performance in Amadeus affected the music world, but as a hint, the Amadeus soundtrack (Which is nearly all Mozart) went Platinum in the US, something a classical record has almost never been able to achieve. It's estimated that after Amadeus, Mozart sales were boosted an amazing 30%! |
