"You were saying something about Trick or Treat?"
Kirk: He turns the old Kirk charm on Sylvia who, for some odd reason, finds him instantly irrasistable. Until she realizes that he doesn't really love her, just wants to use her. Rowr! Spock: This Vulcan is pretty much just along for the ride. His clever lines are the highlight of this episode. McCoy: Zombified. Sylvia: A totally alien creature disguised as a beautiful woman. Eventually turns into a big cat and chases Kirk and Spock. Korob: Another alien like Sylvia, he's whipped by her and knows it too. Zulu, Scotty: Controlled by Sylvia. |

Not much to work with here, this was not the most, shall we say, creative or dramatic of all Star Trek. The reason I wanted it up here mostly was that it was a gold-mine for bad fight scene's and witty Spock lines. For what it's worth, Scotty and Zulu beam down to a planet's surface for some reason (I'm not sure if it was explained, but it's not important anyway.) and they disappear. So Kirk, the genius, decides to beam down with Spock and McCoy, his two most valuble crew mates, to search for them. I don't know about you, but if two capable officers were missing for no reason, I would not beam down with my second in command and search together for them. Ah well, no matter. Kirk, Spock, and McCoy encounter three witches that warn them to stay away, but the stubborn Captain continues on and wanders into a large castle where they're trapped. They find out Zulu and Scotty and being controlled by Sylvia and Korob, and basically wander around like mindless zombies. Sylvia and Korob are from a race that does not have feeling or sensation, and they are on a mission. What that mission is, they never say. Korob says it's for the 'old ones' but how capturing humans helps these 'old ones' is beyond me. A question-If they wanted to keep Kirk, Spock, and McCoy there, why warn them to stay away? They tell them to leave several times, then force them to stay. Would they make up their minds already? Apparently these 'old ones' are pretty patient. This episode has embaressingly bad fight scene's and terrible special effects. Spock had some good lines, and the dialog wasn't as cheesy as you would imagine. Still, for as ironic and meaningful as they tried to make it, something was missing. I still haven't figured out what, but there was something out of place. |

Quick Plot: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
*No woman can resist Kirk's charm, even ones who have had no previous contact with humans and are from a totally different species. *If you're Captain Kirk, you don't have to come in contact with someone to knock them out, coming close is good enough. *Wonderful thing, that Vulcan Nerve Pinch. *Highly advanced aliens are about the size of a small bird and are made of blue fuzzy yarn. *Kirk should learn to stop seducing psychic aliens who anger easily. *A skeleton that's been decaying for years will be perfectly white. *The wind will mess up Kirk's hair, giving him a manly, rugged look, but leave Spock and McCoy's hair untouched. |

Things I learned from Catspaw:
1:41-Great idea Kirk, beam down with your two most valuble men . . . 11:51: Now THAT is a really fake skeleton. 20:49-Goodie, another bad girl for Kirk to seduce. 28:38-Spock, why are you whispering? You're alone with Kirk in a dungeon. 30:02-With all due respect to Spock, he must be fairly weak by Vulcan standards. Vulcan's are supposed to be strong enough to lift and throw large boulders, yet old, rusty shackles hold him. 40:45-I won't even comment on how bad these 'giant cat' special effects are. 42:42-Kirk punched him in the jaw, so he fell unconcious? 43:13-There are many ways to make a punch look real on-screen. This is not one of them. 45:36-'I can give you a blow job!' (You'd have to see the scene, no way I'm explaining that one) 46:25-They're puppets made of yarn! |

Things to watch for: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Kirk: Comment, Mr. Spock. Spock: Very bad poetry, Captain. McCoy: Three witches, what appears to be a castle, and a black cat. Kirk: If we weren't missing two men and a third one dead I'd say someone was planning an elaborate Trick or Treat. Spock: 'Trick or Treat', Captain? Kirk: Yes Mr. Spock, you'd be a natural. Kirk: They refer to us as 'creatures', as though we're some species they're only farmiliar with. But if we're 'creatures' then what are they? Korob: I have the power! Sylvia: But you're afraid to use it! Don't push me. Spock: Captain, a bit more alacrity if you please. |
