Gyro failure

bullet Change to hand steering.
bullet Call master.
bullet Avoid immediate danger if any.
bullet Steer course using magnetic compass, apply compass error from log book for last observation, deviation curve and variation.
bullet Verify vessel's position.
bullet Change over input to second gyro if available.
bullet Radars to head-up display, if fed from gyro.
bullet Check compass error and deviation. Adjust course as required.
bullet Call a steering man if necessary.
bullet Entry to be made in deck log book.
bullet Ask chief officer to arrange watch for hand steering.
bullet Inform chief engineer and electrician to check and repair.
bullet If repair is not possible onboard, ask owner for arrange repair in next port of call.
bullet Report to the port control/VTIS if required by them, especially prior arrival/departure or transit.
bullet Inform pilot that gyro is out of order, in case of pilotage.
