City Market - Kansas City, MO - July '02

GOODLUCK.JPG (10028 bytes) While moving in, we found this in the heart of a bell pepper - I think it was a good sign of things to come.

Still in the process of moving in, I convinced my better half that we needed a break from the hassle of unpacking boxes and should get out to visit and get to know the natives.  Well, what better opportunity than to take advantage of the Kansas City's summer weekly club invitational to the City Market when it happened to be the VW/Porsche clubs turn.

CITYM00.JPG (40030 bytes)  City Market is the old farmer's market in old downtown KC.  Very cool location, and it was a good thing they had overhead cover, because it was hot!

All in all, it was a good turn out.  Got to meet some of the local MoKan club members.  As usual with the VW crowd, all were very cool and welcoming.

Despite what we said about about going to Kansas, we actually live in Missouri in a town of about 3000 people.  Kansas and Missouri are split by the Missouri river and we live just on the other side.  Despite what you may think, where we're at is not all flat prairie country, but rather more rolling, green.  We're smack dab between school on the other side of the river at Ft Leavenworth (yes, were the Army has it's prison) and Kansas City, MO.  We live minutes from the oldest towns in both Missouri and Kansas.  Pretty neat location.  Then there's Kansas City.  For those who haven't been, KC is a very cool city.  It's huge and old and lots to do and see.  Most of the buildings are well over 100 years old and still in great shape.  Lots of red brick architecture.  Tons of cool places to take pictures of your vintage VW.

Summer is definitely the season for shows out here in the Midwest.  For example, we missed a show up in Omaha, NE just north of us.  We missed probably the largest show in the area down in Eureka Springs, AR just south of us.  We missed a ton of bus camping trips sponsored by the Buskatiers at various locations all around us.

Problem is that we have to drive 3-4 hours to get to most of them.  Now I know for many of you, especially, my Midwest brothers, that ain't nothing but a thing.  These folks are some driving muldoons.  I mean they've made it as far as the coasts for shows, and some of you MPAS crowd have met them, names have come up of some of you.  The VW network is an amazing thing.
