Bergelmir was son of Thrudgelmir and the grandson of Ymir. When the giant Ymir was killed, the great flood of blood that ensued killed all but two of the frost-giants; Bergelmir and his wife. After the flood Bergelmir and his wife settled in the land of Jotunheim. From these two sprung the entire new race of frost-giants.
