The following class rules are derived from rules that were written by our STUDENTS of the Sixth Grade Classes in Language Arts.
They are also based upon expected student behaviors as defined in the Student Handbook. But more importantly, they are rules that your child knows need be followed in order for all to have a successful and productive year at any school.
These rules were adapted so that we can have an environment that is both safe, and conducive to learning. The class rules are:
1. Students are to be in their assigned seats upon entering the class. They are not expected to leave their seats without permission.
2. Each student is expected to have all the necessary materials for class everyday including textbooks, workbooks, notebooks, assignments, etc.
3. Students are to pay attention and actively participate in all class activities assigned by the teacher. They are not to do work for another class or subject, or read materials other than the subject being covered, unless given permission to do so by the teacher. Materials for another class or a different subject other than the one being covered should not be on a student’s desk.
4. Students are to refrain from talking out loud and to others especially while the teacher is talking, giving instruction, or during assigned classwork. Students ARE encouraged to talk and activily participate in co-operative learning activities. Such talk should be related to the task at hand.
5. Students are not to talk when visitors come into the class for any reason, especially during communications via the intercom. Noise making, forced laughter, forced coughing, etc. are also unacceptable.
6. Students are not to gather around the teacher’s desk without permission. Students are not to touch or read papers, gradebooks, or other things on the teacher’s desk.
7. Students are to respect each other and each other’s belongings. Students are not to borrow, take, hide or damage another’s property.
8. Students are to avoid any action that is distracting, interferes with or disrupts learning, ESPECIALLY by harassing other students (taking books, poking and kicking others, pushing desks, throwing or shooting items around the room, passing notes, etc.).
9. Students are responsible for keeping the room, their desk and their area clean. Students are to clean up around their desks and discard paper at appropriate times.
10. Students are not to use vulgar, obscene, suggestive, or insulting expressions. Avoid outward demonstrations of disapproval, argument, or any behavior that is disruptive to the classroom situation.
11. The location of desks, the adjustments of windows, blinds lights and furnishings are the teacher’s responsibility. Students are not to change these unless directed by the teacher.
12. Generally, eating, drinking, and chewing gum are prohibited in classrooms.
13. Students are expected to complete all class assignments. Completion of all homework assignments is a must. Students are not to copy from each other’s work, except when working on co-operative assignments.
14. Proper attire is expected. In schools where uniforms are expected students should be in uniform with their shirts tucked in. Pants legs should not be rolled or tucked into socks. Students should sit at their desks in a proper manner. They should not rock backward or sideways in their chairs.
15. Cell Phones or electronic devices are not to be used in class without the authorization of the teacher. This includes but is not limited to text messaging, voice mail, open lines, video or photo captures, electronic game devices, radios, CD or mpeg players. No laser pointers under any circumstances.
