like hosea
Look, death doth come
To marry me to cold limbed night
Lo, merciless eyes of my queen
Love in fright, with it to bind
Wild and untameable,
I can only so breathlessly say
I do, then she possesses me
I can do nothing here in her marble arms
Her domain borders from the dark blue
And satin purple of dusk
To the first gentle warmings
Of noiseless dawn
I am still a stranger to it
And always will be
For this is her land not mine
Even as her king
This is a queen's world
And she need not obey me
Instead I must not be afraid
Of what she might do
She is terrible in her freedom
And it hurts my innermost
And like Hosea
I must wait for her to come back where we sleep
Waiting for the warm sun
To abandon the sky
To abandon the sky
Then once again she will roam
The huntress, I can only cry
While she my mistress stalks as night
Cold, cold night…
the old testament book of hosea is probably one of the most powerful testaments in history outside of the "Passion".
i read it often as a child and it literally brought me to tears.  I can never escape the realisation that i have done the same as hosea's wife (in a figurative way) every day since i was born.
since when have we been faithful?  since when have we been true?
never.  we are objects of wrath...
then you get to the end of the book.........
what was dead is called alive... what was not His people is called His people.
and that is us...
from the grave we can walk in His favour again.
