We live in a disposable world. Plastics, wrappers, cans, everything can be thrown away. No wonder we sometimes try to change our lives by throwing away the friends and family that surround us. Many people feel like starting over, starting from scratch. Some people try to make it happen by destroying everything that reminds them of their old life: their house, their clothes, their wife, their kids, their car, their acquaintences. People feel repressed and trapped in their lives. They long to be who they feel they would be without circumstances dragging them down. As if they would be wonderful great people if only they could start over. We are not naturally nice creatures... Humanism is based on an optimism that everyone desires utopia and will “come together” to resolve their differences and forms of repression &ct. Anarchy is based on the assumption that when all laws are abolished people will by nature look out for each other’s welfare and true rights. Though I truly wish it were so, and if it were I would be the first to call for the dissolution of the government/law/capitalism, our natural bent is one of selfishness, lusting after our own gain, trying to get away with as much as we can. As humans when we see that we are not getting what we want we resort to the most selfish and oppressive means at our disposal: Violence. Just like the powerful world powers can use brute force, bombs or even insidious financial leverage to push and pull whole groups of people to their whim, individuals (as well as groups fighting the oppressing governments) use the same tactics with the same cruelty though not always with the same scope. but we can learn control and live nice.... but it is never easy. |
