Vectors and the Incredible Hulk

Read the problem below, then answer the questions on a separate sheet of paper. Show your work.  Draw a vector diagram where appropriate.  Watch for significant digits.

The Incredible Hulk chases after a bad guy and runs 350.0 m directly east.  The Bad guy rounds a corner and the hulk follows, accelerating and running at a faster pace 540.0 m directly south.  The Hulk catches the bad guy, and drags him 120.0 m west and ties him to a large oak tree for the police to find.  The Hulk then returns to his secret laboratory walking 1220.0 m north, where he calms down and transforms back into the mild mannered scientist, David Banner.

1.  What was the total distance traveled by the bad guy?

2.  What was the displacement of the bad guy? (include a vector diagram with your answer)

3.  What was the total distance traveled by the Hulk?

4.  What was the displacement of the Hulk? (include a vector diagram with your answer)

5.  If it took the Hulk 14.2 minutes to catch the bad guy and return to his lab, what was the Hulk’s average speed in meters/second?

6.  What was the Hulk’s average speed in kilometers/hour?

7.  What was the Hulk/s average speed in miles/hr?

8.  At what point was the Hulk’s instantaneous velocity at a maximum?

9.  At what point was the Hulk’s instantaneous velocity at a minimum?
