Exploratory Lesson

Hi you all!!  This will be an exploratory lesson about Microsoft Word.  You may work with each other to figure out how to do each section.  Have fun!!  Remember to click on "Help" for any item below.

Open your paragraph(s) called "About Me".  Go to File/Save As/ and call it "FormPrac1yourname".  (Yes, that would be your "first"  name.)

Copy your work and paste it several times so that you have about 4 or 5 pages of text and/or about 10 or 12 paragraphs.  It doesn't matter that they say the same thing over and over.  Make sure you have a space between each paragraph.

Select your first paragraph.  Center the whole paragraph.

Fully justify the second paragraph. (Both left and right edges are straight.)

Right justify the third paragraph.

Select the fourth and fifth paragraphs and give them bullets.

Select the sixth and seventh paragraphs and give them numbered bullets.

Select your tenth paragraph.  If it is too short, copy it a few times to make one long paragraph.  Go to Format/Columns.  Click "TWO".  See what happens.  Experiment with "THREE", "LEFT", "RIGHT", etc.  Decide which one you like best and keep it that way.

Select your tenth paragraph again (in columns).  "Justify" it so that the left and right edges are straight.  Neat, eh?  Now make the font size 10 or 8.

Find your "Draw" toolbar by going to View/Toolbars/Drawing.  Select the "Line" tool and draw a line above and below your columned paragraphs.  Now doesn't that look awesome?

Select your eleventh paragraph.  Go to Format/Borders and Shading.  Make sure that in the "Apply to" box it says "paragraph".  Now experiment with "box", "shadow", "3D", line colour and thickness, etc.  Try clicking on the "Horizontal Line" as well.  Cool surprise here.

Now copy an unformatted paragraph about 7 or 8 times and play with some of the stuff you learned above.  Try adding some "insert page breaks" and some "Clip Art" as well.  If you find something else really bizarre and interesting make sure you tell me.  I might not know about it yet.  I always want to learn more.
