PHYSICAL
EDUCATION – C.N.B.M.S.
1.
PHILOSOPHY
To meet the Ministry of Education guidelines and to ensure that P.E. is
an integral part of the total education program. Our aim is for students to develop a positive attitude towards an
active lifestyle and a lifelong goal of health and wellness.
2.
OBJECTIVE

Participate regularly and
willingly in physical activity to develop components of fitness and motor
abilities.

Identify and describe the
benefits of active living
·
Set and evaluate goals to
develop personal fitness abilities and maintain a healthy lifestyle
·
Demonstrate a personal
functional level of fitness
·
Plan and apply movement skills
and concepts to create sequences with or without music
·
Select and apply rules,
routines, and procedures of safety in a variety of activities from all movement
categories
·
Demonstrate positive behaviors
that indicate self-respect and self-confidence

Demonstrate appropriate social
behavior while working cooperatively

Demonstrate etiquette and fair
play
·
Describe and apply leadership
skills related to physical activity

EVALUATION
Students will be evaluated in the
following areas:
A.
EFFORT/PARTICIPATION/SPORTSMANSHIP (Affective Domain) 60%
The teachers use a five point grading scale
to evaluate effort, participation, and
sportsmanship on a regular basis
5 – Excellent`
Enters into activity with enthusiasm and interest. Encouraging and supporting others,
demonstrates leadership, acceptance of others, volunteering, etc.
4 – Good
Has a few lapses of enthusiasm and interest. Demonstrating good self control, positive
attitude, cooperative, and respectful
3 – Satisfactory
When motivated is enthusiastic.
On task, adequate behaviour and attitude
2 – Unsatisfactory
Seldom enthusiastic. Lack of
self control, inappropriate behaviours
1 – Rarely an enthusiastic participant. Inappropriate gym strip
0 – Does not participate. No strip, unexcused absence,
very poor behaviour
B. SKILLS

4.
GYM STRIP
Students missing gym strip more than 3 times in one term will drop a
letter grade.
Athletic Shorts or Sweat pants - no cutoffs, bathing suits, or shorts with zippers or belts.
T-shirts - no
buttons, zippers, midriff shirts, or shirts advertising drugs or alcohol
Running shoes – must
have non-marking soles. Students wearing dress shoes, boots or sandals in PE
class will not be permitted to participate and will receive a No Strip
mark.
Socks - must be
worn in P.E. class
5. VALUABLES
No valuable of any kind should be left in the gym or
change rooms. Students will be asked to
remove jewellery during P.E. classes for safety reasons. Instructors are not responsible for lost or
stolen jewellery, watches, clothing, etc.
Because the changing room doors cannot be locked at all times, students
should quickly place valuables in their school lockers before arriving at the
gym.
6.
EXCUSES
A doctor or parent’s note may excuse a student from P.E. Students with notes may be asked to complete
written assignments, service work, or other tasks that the teacher
assigns. Within reason, students with
minor injuries and illnesses will still be expected to wear gym strip and
participate in class. Modification and accommodation for these students will be
met where possible.
7. UNEXCUSED ABSENCES
If a student misses P.E. class they must bring a note from home
explaining their absence.
GRADES 7, 8 9 – P.E. units that may be
covered:
Soccer, Flag Football, Rugby, Field Hockey,
Volleyball, Basketball, Dance, Gymnastics, Badminton, Wrestling, Lacrosse,
Track and Field, Ultimate Frisbee, Tennis, Team Handball, Softball, Indoor and
Outdoor Main Games, Orienteering, Fitness (weights,
conditioning, flexibility, Beep test, 12 Minute Run) will be on going components
of P.E.
