1- Lacrosse originated with the Native North Americans of Canada.
2. There are 3 versions of lacrosse:
a) Box lacrosse (played indoors. 6 vs 6 with pads.
b) Field Lacrosse (played outdoors with pads)
c) The game we played in school called: McWhippet, soft lacrosse or Inter-lacrosse.
3. Rules for McWhippet. or Soft Lacrosse or Inter -lacrosse:
a) whoever covers the ball first gets it. This player may then run with the ball or pass it.
b) after a turnover the defensive team must stand back 2 meters from the ball.
c) when one team puts the ball out of bounds, the other team may pass or carry it back into play.
d) a player may only run with the ball for 5 seconds before passing or shooting, or the ball is given to the other team.
e) defenders must keep both hands on the stick at all times.
f) Attacking players may not use their free hand to push the defenders stick or body out of the way.
g) attacking players not carrying the ball may not interfere with defenders to clear a
space for a teammate. This is called interference and results in the ball being given to the other team.
h) Contact of any kind is illegal. This includes:
aa) stick to stick
bb) stick to body
cc) body to body
i) Minor penalties: A one minute penalty is given to any player who:
aa) molests or contacts an opponent while in the defensive zone.
bb) grabs the stick of an opponent
cc) holds his/her stick in front of the face of an opponent.
dd) uses abusive or obscene language toward an opponent.
ee) delays the game by throwing the ball away after a turnover.
ff) Does not stay 2 meters away after a turnover.
j) Major penalties: The result in the player being expelled from the game.
aa) Attempting to injure an Opponent.
bb) Molesting the referee.
cc) Using abusive
language toward an official. -
