The following field lacrosse specific skills that have been demonstrated, discussed, and practiced during our unit will be tested using the following 5 point rating scale as the instructor observes the student during each task. These skills tests are worth 20% of your unit mark.
Skill:
Trap and scoop- two hands on stick (throat and near butt), knees bent-body over ball, roll ball towards body, face open, lift stick up beside your head, hand on throat and other near butt.
Cradling/control – use wrist action, especially top hand, top hand near throat, move with ball in pocket
Shovel Pass/scoop pass – knees bent, body slightly bent and forward, top hand slides to mid shaft, bottom hand near butt, head of stick down towards ground, low trajectory of ball to partner’s basket.
Overhand pass – Face target, ready position of body, head of stick beside and slightly behind your head, top hand mid shaft, lower hand near butt, step forward with opposite foot, pulling stick butt towards body, follow through with face of stick towards target.
Game play – positioning offence/defence, creating space, pass/shoot, run
Demonstrates proper elements and mechanics of skill with no apparent errors.
Consistent performance and effectiveness.
Skills give general impression of good form, but minor variations exist in performance
and effectiveness
3 Good (Satisfactory)
Skills meet elements of reasonable form, but lack smoothness and ease or lack control
in one or more areas which affects skill as a whole
2 Limited (Developing)
Acceptable attempts and effort, but executes skills with many errors that result in
inconsistency in performance and effectiveness
1 Undeveloped (No participation or
focus)
Skill and or effort is inadequate. No attempt to try skill.
