Closure Words & Music by Brian Griffin (9-7-01) Time’s running out on death row The masses need appeased Appeals and pleas have all run out The family’s running out of sweet money Money greases the wheels of justice That’s how so many guilty rich slip away But if you’re innocent or poor There’s a higher price you’ll have to pay As the people line up outside the prison As they wait for the lights to go dim They say We got have some closure Gotta get it anyway we can Got to find some closure Got to go kill another man Life in prison is not good enough We need to see them die It’s been this way since time began Another eye for an eye It doesn’t matter that they may be innocent As long as they are strapped to the bed As long as they have a vein to shoot up As long as they end up dead When the death supporters scream at the protesters The facts of the case get lost in the fray They yell Chorus Try to get the pay-per-view rights It’s what the people want and need Injection, quivering death We all got a right to see We are well within our rights We need to put our minds at ease So sit us down in the room off to the side To watch the ultimate reality TV As the images burn into our brains What are the lessons that we teach Chorus How dare you try to tell us The way you want to go Want to take a seat in Old Sparky Like so many others have before But that’s not how killing is done today The electric chair is too inhumane Injections are much more tidy and less violent And the result is still the same As they close the curtains on the body in the chamber The audience rises up from their seats and say Chorus Time’s running out on death row The masses need appeased Appeals and pleas have all run out There’s no call for clemency The wheels of justice blindly roll on It’s the Just Us mentality How can we call ourselves civilized With blood on our hands for all to see Go through all of this for a moment of peace But that moment always remains out of reach and we say We got have some closure Need some more closure again Got to find some closure Better send the next one in Better send the next one in Better send the next one in |
