Friendly Fire
Words and Music by Brian Griffin (12-6-01)

You're saving the world from terror
That's what you signed up for
Go across the world to fight the foe
You had so much to give and more
You think you're ready for everything
You know all the weapons that they got
But what you didn't plan on was
Getting hit by one of your own bombs

You were Caught in friendly fire
Your body blown to bits and burned
What did they say about the bombs being smart
They're not the only ones who haven't learned

Never got to die on the battlefield
Never got the chance to kill
Never greet the family coming home on the plane
Your country signed your last will
But you will still be honored
Medals pinned to your cold chest
Before they close the coffin lid
Yes you passed your final test

You were caught in friendly fire
Destruction raining from the sky
You thought all the firepower was eliminated
But it came from our own side

And they'll say It was all a terrible mistake
An unfortunate accident
But these things happen in a time of war
That's one thing that you'll never forget
And they'll say please accept our condolences
Accept everything that we say
'Cause we got ourselves a war to run
And we got more soldiers to train

To be caught in friendly fire
It isn't quite as it seems
If this how we treat our allies
Then who's the enemy?
Caught in friendly fire
Your body blown to bits and burned
What did they say about the bombs being smart
They're not the only ones who haven't learned
Will we ever learn now?

You're saving the world from terror
That's what you signed up for
You didn't realize that in the end
The terror was the guy with the button next door
