The American Way
Words/Music by Brian Griffin (4-21-81)

Stocks, bonds, credit cards
Pay 10 bucks to see a movie star
Quarters, dimes, nickels and cents
Foot the bill for the big event
Every week your pay gets less
You can't buy the thrills of happiness
They tax you for the air you breathe
Shit like that they can't redeem
Corporate eyes, green with greed
Take more and more of your money
That's not the way it should be
The people don't care, they don't see
Business men boast with pride
That you're in debt until your die

Don't stop the slide, they all say
Don't interfere with the American Way

The rich play the market for their kicks
Working class is tired and sick
At the eatery, the rich steak they carve
While people with no money starve
Upper class live life fast
Lower class, life don't last
The police obsession with oppression
Silence protesters with their lethal weapons
The government serves itself selfishly
and screws the people it was made to please
Don't expect to get a break
It's dog eat dog, you'll learn your place
You're in a free land but you're not free
This is not the way it was meant to be

We must change the people say
But' you can't buddy, it's the American Way

The President and the heads of state
Get you for all that they can take
The congress, the Senate and the House
Most of the members are corrupt louse
They send all the young boys to war
While they go sleep around with whores
They yell "Join the service,  you'll be a man"
But if you're dead, who gives a damn
The army mass produces clones
So all the dead boys won't die alone
They think they know what is right
If you don't believe them you better learn to fight
They have the power they have their will
They have their reasons, their right to kill
They'll drop the bomb if you disagree
People who ask why they don't need
There must be a change, they could see
But it's too late to be free

On the day when the world's the same
The day we'll achieve the American Way
