1 plus 1 equals pissed!

Today I realized that math is important in the “real” world. For example, follow this equation:

(1 email telling me the start date of the new term) + (1 official certificate of acceptance received in the mail) – ($150 to change an airline ticket) = 1 incredibly pissed off Michelle!

Did you follow the math? For those slow learners, here’s what happened. Months ago, I emailed the University of Aberdeen to confirm the start date of term as January 9th, 2006 and they responded with an affirmative. So, I confidently purchased my airline ticket for January 5th, 2006. Well, a week or so ago, I finally received my official certificate of acceptance in the mail, which I need for my visa, etc., and the date stated as the beginning of my program was Monday, January 30th, 2006! So, after some cursing and calming, and then another round of cursing, I had to go and change the date of my ticket which resulted in a $150 fee. Can we say ridiculous?! My new departure day is Thursday, January 26th, 2006. So, while I’m still angry, there’s nothing much I can really do about it, except sit on my butt and amuse myself for another 3 weeks. I thought being unemployed would be so much fun and I’d have time to do everything I couldn’t when I was working all those rotating shifts. Well, not being able to spend any money because you don’t have any income coming in isn’t much fun, and I realized that I really don’t have that much to do anymore, hence the reason I began this webpage. I’m counting on having something exciting happen to me eventually, so until I leave this cold desolate state, I wouldn’t count on too much gossip.

I did mail out my visa application the other day, so hopefully (fingers crossed), everything goes okay and I am granted a visa, otherwise I don’t know what I’ll do! Who would have believed that a stamp in a passport could cost $174? Not me, that’s for sure. I also recently mailed out my housing application and hope that everything gets taken care of before I arrive in Scotland, so that I don’t have to spend the first few days sleeping on a bench somewhere like a hobo!

Until I leave, I’ll just continue to work on my sketches. If you’re curious about my drawing ability, have a quick look. Mind you, I’m no professional and the quality isn’t as good as in my sketchbook. I’ve included some old ones, as well as new ones.
